Celebrate Sweden’s National Day with us

On June 6th, the flag is raised, traditional folk costumes are brought out from the linen cupboard, and the scent of summer spreads across the country. National Day is a moment to pause, feel pride, and reflect on what connects us: our history, our culture, and our traditions. We highlight National Day to honour the value of craftsmanship, storytelling, and cultural heritage – while looking ahead to a vibrant culture for generations to come.

A heritage to carry forward

On Sweden’s National Day, the folk costume holds a special place. Today mostly worn on festive occasions, it remains a living part of our shared cultural heritage – a way to honour history and feel a sense of belonging. There are over 800 documented folk costumes in Sweden, often unique to each parish or region, with colours, details, and materials that tell stories of life in earlier times.

Celebrate Sweden’s National Day at Skansen!

On June 6th, Skansen invites you to a day filled with games, music, flag crafts, and traditions – from folk dancing and choir singing to a National Day market. The celebration ends with a concert on the Solliden stage, in collaboration with the Foundation for Sweden’s National Day and Swedish Television (SVT).
