Kero Leather

Since 1929, Kero has been crafting goods from naturally tanned reindeer leather in the small village of Sattajärvi, deep in Lapland. Surrounded by vast forests and rugged wilderness, the craft has been passed down through generations, where turnshoes, boots, slippers, bags, and backpacks are still made with great care and skill.

The company is built on a heritage that spans generations. From its founders, Yrjö Kero and Karl Wälivaara, the legacy has remained within the family and is now carried on by Emma and Erik, both descendants of the Kero lineage. Despite the passage of time, the craft endures, with each product a continuation of a long-standing tradition.

Reindeer leather has been used for clothing and footwear for centuries, and at the tannery in Sattajärvi, it is treated with plant-based substances – a method that makes the leather soft, supple, and free from allergens. Every hide bears traces of the reindeer's journey across mountains and marshes, shaped by the northern lights and Arctic cold.

Long before sustainability became a buzzword, it was a natural part of Kero’s philosophy. Every product is crafted with respect for nature, the craft, and the people who use it. The tradition lives on, along with the firm belief that quality and sustainability go hand in hand.
